CTV Danlambao/Translate by Nhu Ngoc - On May 13, 2014, tens of thousands of workers in the industrial parks in Binh Duong simultaneously went on strike and staged the largest labor protest in recent history against Chinese aggression, leaving the whole industrial parks and Binh Duong security system completely paralyzed.
By noon the same day, the protest had spreaded to the industrial zone of Vietnam-Singapore, Song Than and Viet Huong. Reportedly, a few groups of angry workers smashed and made damaged to some properties belonged to Chinese and Taiwanese companies.
The video clips show protesters in working uniforms flood the streets, creating a cluttered and chaotic landscape. The local police force is relatively slow in keeping order. Traffic tie-ups on National Highway 13 stretch out for several kilometers.
Reportedly, in the morning of May 13, factory workers at companies invested by Chinese and Taiwanese entrepreneurs suddenly went on strike to protest against China for placing the HD-981 rig inside the exclusive economic zone of Vietnam.
Then, those workers walked to the other plants calling for a strike and protest against Chinese aggression.
The response of workers created a snowball effect, causing shutdowns to Chinese invested factories in the industrial parks by noon.
Since this was a spontaneous protest, some angry workers had marched to some factories and workshops of enterprises with foreign capital to cause some property damages, prompting companies from Singapore, South Korea and Japan to fly their national flag to avoid bias attacks.
Companies from China and Taiwan suffered most of the attacks from angry workers. Some workers reportedly took down and burned Chinese flags, and also removed and destroyed the signs with Chinese prints.
By 3 p.m. the same day, police were mobilized in some areas, but workers continued to march.
Meanwhile, the workers at Linh Trung, Tan Tao and some factories in various locations in Saigon also held peaceful protests against China.
