Như Ngọc (Danlambao) - As of today, June 17, 2013, the hunger strike of Dr. Cu Huy Ha Vu has reached 22 consecutive days. Dr. Vu’s struggle in protesting against the brutal and inhuman treatment of communist prison system continues to be the subject that draws a strong and emotional public opinion in Vietnam and abroad.
Despite of the bashing against Dr. Vu from the state-controlled media, his courageous spirit has been widely supported by many people through their real actions.
Began at the No. 5 prison in Thanh Hoa province, the non-violent resistance by fasting of Dr. Cu Huy Ha Vu so far has been widely spreaded. The hunger strikes in solidarity with Cu Huy Ha Vu have happened everywhere, in many different forms.
Among the first ones who joined the hunger strike in solidarity with Dr. Vu is artist Ngo Nhat Dang, now living in Hanoi.
The artist posted a message on his Facebook account:
"Maybe we have not reached the attention of the authorities, awakened the conscience of a majority. But at least we know in this world there are still people who are compassionate, know how to share... in the silent and hostile walls, Cu Huy Ha Vu is less lonely even though he has enough bravery and courage to go to the destination that he has chosen...
…Fasting in one day, for me and many others is nothing terrible, even healthy. It’s highly respectable that many people who do not know Vu also sympathize with him, I really admire them and also admire those who support him in different ways, and it kneads the hearts with invisible threads but strong and lasting.” - Facebook Ngô Nhật Đăng.
In recent talk to CTV Danlambao, attorney Nguyen Thi Duong Ha said: Although being in a very weak health status, Dr. Vu expressed extreme joy to know that there are many people who have joined the hunger strike in solidarity with him to support his struggle.
Despite being held in a communist prison, Dr. Cu Huy Ha Vu will not be alone in the struggle for justice.
