Tuy nhiên, về các chỉ số cụ thể liên quan tới môi trường khí ảnh hưởng sức khỏe con người, môi trường nước, và bệnh dịch vì tác hại môi trường, Việt Nam ở các thứ hạng rất thấp.
Ví dụ như về chỉ số môi trường không khí, Việt Nam hiện đứng thứ 123 trên 132 nước được xếp hạng, và theo dự báo, sẽ tiếp tục rớt hạng trong thời gian tới.

Taiwan ranked 29th out of 132 countries in the 2012 Environmental Performance Index (EPI), announced the Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) yesterday.
The EPI is an international study managed by the United States' Yale and Columbia Universities. The index evaluates a country's environmental protection program, based on 22 performance indicators in 10 policy categories.

Trong khu vực ASEAN, nước có chỉ số EPI xếp hạng cao nhất là Malaysia, với thứ hạng 25 / 132 . Trong một năm qua, nước này đã qua mặt quốc đảo Singapore để dẫn đầu khu vực về việc thực hiện các chính sách bảo vệ môi trường.

Malaysia top among Asean nations on Environmental Performance Index
Malaysia was top among Asean countries on the Environmental Performance Index (EPI) for 2011 released by the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Douglas Uggah Embas said among 132 countries in the world, Malaysia was ranked 25th.
"Malaysia was also in third spot in the Asia-Pacific region behind New Zealand and Japan," he said in a media statement today.
The EPI which was developed by experts from Yale University and Columbia University measures a country's sustainability level through environmental health and strong, healthy ecosystems.
Malaysia is also in the high-performance group on the EPI together with Germany, Iceland, Finland, Denmark, Japan and Belgium.

Malaysia ranked 3rd in the Asia Pacific region in the 2011 environmental performance index, which measures the effectiveness of countries' green programmes, an official said Friday.
Zaini Ujang, head of Malaysia's environmental performance index team, said the south-east Asian country was behind only New Zealand and Japan in the Asia Pacific and wasranked 25th among 132 countries around the world.
In 2010, Malaysia was ranked 54th worldwide, Zaini said. The 2011 rankings were announced this week at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
The environmental performance index was developed in 2002 by Yale University and Columbia University in collaboration with the European Commission and the World Economic Forum.
