Breaking News: Unexpected protest at Chinese embassy in Hanoi

CTV DanlambaoOn the afternoon of May 9, 2014, many Hanoi residents suddenly gathered at the Chinese embassy in Hanoi to stage a protest against the recent hostile and illegal actions of China to place the HD-981 rig and deploy 80 vessels, including warships, inside territorial waters of Vietnam, seriously violating Vietnam's sovereignty.

Dozens of demonstrators held banners carrying protest messages including the ones that demand the  communist authorities of Vietnam to release the patriots currently imprisoned for solely standing up and speaking out against China's invasion.

“[We are] so angry that we cannot wait until Sunday; therefore, we make a discussion and agree to go to the [Chinese] embassy to make protest,” wrote a post on Pham Quoc Bao’s Facebook.

The banners at the protest carry the following messages and demands:
- Down with the Chinese invasion (Đả đảo Trung Quốc xâm lược)
- China, get out of the East Sea! (Trung Quốc cút khỏi Biển Đông)
- Down with illegal U-shape line (Đả đảo đường lưỡi bò phi pháp)
- Freedom for the patriot Tran Vu Anh Binh
- Freedom for the patriot Dieu Cay
- Freedom for the patriot Bui Thi Minh Hang
- Freedom for the patriot Anh Ba Sam - Nguyen Huu Vinh

The pictures of the late teacher Dinh Dang Dinh, blogger Dieu Cay – Nguyen Van Hai, the activist Bui Thi Minh Hang, writer Nguyen Xuan Nghia, blogger Anh Ba Sam - Nguyen Huu Vinh, were also respectfully held by protesters. Those are the brave patriots who have the courage to speak out against China's invasion, face imprisonment by Vietnamese communist authorities, or make the ultimate scarify for the Fatherland as in the case of teacher Dinh Dang Dinh.

Meanwhile in Haiphong, despite being confined at home by the secret security agents, blogger Pham Thanh Nghien bravely painted the following protest messages on the wall of her house.

“Paracel Islands - Spratly Islands – Vietnam”
“Down with the invasion of Communist China"
“Objection to the HD-981 rig

In 2008, Nghien was arrested and sentenced to 4 years in prison for hanging banners with similar messages in her home.
