Phuong Anh, front left, at an anti-China protest in Hanoi on May 11, 2014
Ladies and gentlemen,
In the morning, May 15, my wife Le Thi Phuong Anh went to Dong Nai with her friends Trung Nghia and Pham Minh Vu. Phuong Anh took a ride with Trung Nghia and Vu rode his motorbike alone.
Around 10:15 a.m., while approaching the Amata Industrial Zone, Phuong Anh and Trung Nghia were stopped by a group of about 50 police. They asked Phuong Anh to delete all the pictures that she had taken with her cell phone. Then they arrested both of them. Moment earlier, Phuong Anh could promptly make a call to tell me the troubles.
At 8 this morning, we went to Dong Nai Police Headquarters to inquire about the incident. After a quarrel, a police receptionist told us to go to Bien Hoa police to make inquiry. At 9:10 a.m, we arrived at Bien Hoa City Police Headquarters. A police receptionist here neither confirms nor denies that they detain Phuong Anh and Trung Nghia Phuong Anh.
It’s been a day since Phuong Anh called me but I do not know any more information about her status. The cell phones of Phuong Anh and Trung Nghia are still ringing but no one has answered or the calls have been intentionally denied. This is clearly an illegal and arbitrary arrest by Dong Nai police.
Please note that Le Thi Phuong Anh was a vital link in a drug gang run by the current Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai, a Chinese Vietnamese. During the last 6 years, we have pursued the allegations of terrible crimes committed by Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and former communist party chief Nong Duc Manh.
While the public opinion at home and abroad is boiling anger with the Chinese deployment of the HD-981 rig that violates Vietnam’s soverenity, a more terrible rig has stationed in the heart of the most powerful political system. That rig is Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai, the main economic planner who has manipulated the entire economy and the system since 2007.
On September 16, 2013, Phuong Anh sent an allegation letter to Congressman Duong Trung Quoc, who subsequently forwarded the letter to the Ministry of Public Security. Since then, although we have repeatedly voiced our requests, both Congressman Duong Trung Quoc and the Ministry of Public Security have remained silent.
Torture, coercion, and the use of corporal punishment in detention facilities are very common in Vietnam. In the case of Le Thi Phuong Anh, police will likely use corporal punishment for a coercive interrogation, especially for forcing her to deny her allegation letter.
Therefore, we ask for your support to demand Dong Nai police to immediately release Phuong Anh and Trung Nghia and to request the Vietnamese authorities to investigate our allegations in accordance with the laws. It is not only the legitimate rights of a citizen in society, but also the essential work to protect our country from the sinister plot of the invaders and the traitors lead by Hoang Trung Hai.
