Another Statistic in Deaths at Police Stations

Danlambao’s collaborator – The victim is Nguyen Quoc Thang, born 21 May, 1994. (Home address: alley 766, Cach Mang Thang Tam street, Tan Binh district, Saigon). Thang was found dead at District 10 Police station; the given reason was “committed suicide”. His mother recounted on Friday 15th Jan. 2016 Thang, employed to work in a bar for nearly two months, did not get home after the working hours. The next day, the family started looking for him. On Sunday afternoon 17th Jan., local authorities arrived and met with his mother at home. Local police informed that Thang had been arrested on suspicion of drug dealing.

If no conclusion concerning his drug dealing was reached after a 48-hour investigation, according to local police, he would have been released. Ward 5 Police requested Thang’s mother to come to their station ‘to work’. Upon her arrival, however, she was notified that her son had committed suicide inside District 10 Police station –the place where he had been taken into custody. No family member was present during the earlier autopsy conducted by the police, which concluded that there was no drug in Thang’s body.

Currently the police are encouraging Thang’s family not to sue or to look into his death.

According to the obituary, Thang’s body would be cremated at Tan Binh Center, Hung Hoa.

Nowadays there have been more and more unusual deaths at government agencies such as police stations and local people’s committees. And most of these incidents were hushed up since the families concerned were too scared to find the truth under police threat. This is a clear indication of the fact that, under the communist regime , every citizen’s life in Vietnam has been rendered so fragile and badly cheap.
