Danlambao - At 5 pm today, August 02, 2013, the son of blogger Dieu Cay, Nguyen Tri Dung went to Prison No. 6 (Thanh Chuong - Nghe An) to visit his father. Reportedly, during the 5-minute visitation, blogger Dieu Cay said he suspended the hunger strike on Thursday, July 27, 2013, after the representative of the People's Procuracy of Nghe An Province came to the prison to resolve the issues regarding his complaint.
Shortly after leaving the prison, Nguyen Tri Dung had repeatedly received harassed calls with obscene language and threats that say, "Do you believe I would kill your father?"
Thus, Dieu Cay had gone through a 35-day hunger strike from June 22 to July 27, 2013. He has gradually regained his strength and could walk out to meet his relatives at the recent visitation by himself.
Reportedly, prison officials at Prison No. 6 (Thanh Chuong - Nghe An) had threatened all prisoners not to reveal the information about the hunger strike of Dieu Cay by announcing the use of “solitary discipline” to punish any violator.
Mrs. Duong Thi Tan, blogger Dieu Cay's ex-wife, told reporter that on July 27, Mr. Nga, the Director of the People's Procuracy of Nghe An Province came to the prison to settle the compliant of Dieu Cay. Previously, this official had repeatedly refused to meet Mrs. Duong and her son at the headquarters of the People's Procuracy of Nghe An Province.
Thus, after 35 days on hunger strike, the protest of blogger Dieu Cay in the dark dungeon was successful. After days of shirking responsibilities, Prison No. 6 and the People's Procuracy of Nghe An Province were forced to meet his demand.
Via the message from his family, Dieu Cay had sent his sincere thanks to all organizations and individuals those who have voiced their concern and supported his hunger strike lately.
Reportedly, family members were also allowed to meet the writer Nguyen Xuan Nghia and Mr. Nguyen Kim Nhan at the visitation today.
