CTV Danlambao - Translated by TH HO and CTV-Danlambao - On December 9, 2014, at about 15:30, the police
mobilised dozens of thugs to stop Blogger Nguyen Hoang Vi when she was
on her way home and violently attacked her in retaliation for her
participation in the International Human Rights Day celebration and in
the marking of the first year anniversary of the founding of the
Vietnamese Bloggers' Network.
This abject act authorized by the government has blatantly violated the
International Human Rights Convention which Vietnam is a signatory.
The
attack occurred in the presence of dozens of police and the
authorities' so-called "civil defenders" who staked out in front of
Blogger Nguyen Hoang Vi's home at Lane 107, Phan Van Nam Street, Tan Phu
District, Saigon (Ho Chi Minh city) for hours waiting for her. When
Blogger Nguyen Hoang Vi was about to reach home, suddenly, three women
with their motor bikes tried to run her over.
After
failing this first vicious attack, thugs from different directions
rushed over to her, pulled her hair and violently beat her up. The
blogger was unable to withstand this brutal, unprovoked attack by
police-sponsored thugs, blogger Nguyen Hoang Vi collapsed on the
ground.
While
beating her, these women thugs, in very loud voice, continuously
slandered the blogger, accusing her of having affairs with their
husbands. This slandering practice is normally used by female thugs as a
pre-text to attack people and to gain empathy from on-lookers ensuring
no intervention nor assistance for the victim. Police and the other
so-called "civil defenders" were standing around and guarding the thugs
so that they could carry out the beatings aimed at the defenseless blogger.
When
Blogger Nguyen Hoang Vi's mother heard of what was happening outside of
her house, she rushed to the scene with her neighbors to assist her
daughter. This group of female
thugs, their police escorts and the authorities' so-called "civil
defenders" quickly spread out and walked away in an effort not to have
their faces recognized.
Although
she was badly hurt by the beatings, Blogger Nguyen Hoang Vi was
determined to go to the city police station to file a complaint of this
hooligan incident. On the way to the police station, Blogger Hoang Vi
was followed by a large group of plainclothes police.
When
her taxi reached to "Cach Mang Thang 8" Boulevard, this group of
plainclothes police stopped the taxi and forced the taxi driver to go
instead to Ward 10, District 3 police station nearby. But with strong
objection from Hoang Vi and her family, and since they could not force
her to go to a different police station without reason, police then
pressured the taxi driver to turn the car back and brought Hoang Vi and
her family home.
At
the time this article was posted online, there were still about 50
uniformed police, plainclothes police, the authorities' so-called "civil
defenders" and their hired thugs staking out infront of Blogger Hoang
Vi's residence, aiming to terrorise Blogger Nguyen Hoang Vi and to stop
her and her family if they would try to leave the house.
